Pocket Casts: Podcast Player App Reviews

Outstanding App With One Glaring Flaw

This app is so obviously excellent, I switched from my previous favourite, Downcast, within minutes of trying it. So many easily customizable features (like being able to skip obnoxious intros, and customize the length of fast forward and rewind buttons). But there is one basic feature, found in all players, that is missing: a volume control slider. Whats up with that? What a strange thing to leave off an audio player! Yes, you can use the volume buttons on the side of the iPhone, but when inside a case, these are awkward to use. But for this bizarre omission, Pocket Casts would get five stars, no question. As it is, four stars.

Add an episode playlist option!

Great app. Very nice interface Why is there no episode playlist option though? Am I the only person that has ever wanted to compile a playlist of selected episodes from different podcasts onto a playlist and play them consecutively so I dont have to search each on when I want to play them? Or maybe I am just missing something. I also find it strange that you cant download an episode without subscribing to the podcast. There should be an option to view and download episodes of shows without subscribing. Sometimes I just want to listen to one episode of a show

Does the work, but obfuscated interface

For example, how do you get access to The most basic feature of a media app - playlists? If you long tap an episode, you get a context menu wit Add to Up Next, but no playlist! You actually have to open the description window and long tap on the + button in order to get access to Playlists. This kind of inconsistent behaviour would have prevented me from buying the app if there were a trial.

Buggy but tolerable—this is the best!?

Cant say I love it, but in comparison to alternatives, its tolerable. Seems unfinished and probably abandoned. Bugs cause audio muting and other playback issues. Swiping across an episode to mark it as played is the only gesture, and its impossible to mark as unplayed or delete by swiping—technically not a bug but still maddening. New podcasts youve never played or subscribed to are marked as played for no apparent reason! Better than Apples unusable "Podcasts" app, and less crashy than Stitcher, but far from ready for sale with a price like this.

Best out there!

Used to use downcast religiously. Then I heard about this and switched. Best choice ever! Customize the way I want to, sync between devices is snappier than downcast, and it also has a web site thatll play your episodes too! Plus, who wouldnt want something awesome made by awesome Aussies? Customer service with humour, you only get that in very few places! Oi, oi, oi!

Best Podcast App

There are others with fancy features and other things, but for straight forward listening experience Pocket Cast cant be beat.

Excellent podcast app

Very clean, well-designed and functional features and UI. Very easy to use in a car.

My favourite podcast app

I had a few other apps for podcasts but have deleted them all since I started using this one. Ive been using this app for quite a while now and absolutely love it. Easy to use. Works great. The only thing I would like to request is to please add the volume slider back to this. Other than that its perfect!

Decent app, some missing features

This app is really visually appealing and easy to use. I like a lot of the features and how easy it is to add/delete episodes. But they have no playlist option. Weirdly, you can create a playlist, but there is absolutely no way to add episodes to the playlist, rendering the function useless. Maybe update this so the playlist function is actually useable?

No support and buggy on 5s and 6s

Looks like they havent updated it in a long time, maybe theyre leaving it. I have emailed them with no response about a bunch of glitches. I dont use this anymore as its buggy, Overcast works better and is kept up-to-date so take a look at that if looking for another podcast option.

Downloaded episodes disappear

Downloaded episodes keep disappearing. Re-downloading has the same effect. iPad Air on iOS 9.0.2.

Terrific App

However in recent months it seems to have gotten buggy. Developer seems to have stopped updating and replying to emails.

Its a keeper

I tried several podcast apps before this one. Too bad I wasted all that time on the others. Been using it for months now with no complaints or issues.

Great app

Will be even better with a watch OS app.

No compromises

Beautiful and intuitive UI. No complaints.

Great app

I was disappointed when my favourite podcast app stopped being offered - this is a great substitute. No complaints. Have so far had a great experience.

Dont bother

This hasnt gotten updated in years. Dont bother.

Great new update!

It was already my favourite Podcast app. The new dark theme and slicker interface has cemented my love! I want to grow old with this app. Sit side by side in rocking chairs on the porch of our lovely Victorian home, reflecting over a lifetime of improv comedy and woodworking lessons I never quite got around to making use of. As I lay on my deathbed my final thought will be split between hope that the app misses me, and eagerness to be reunited with it in the great beyond. Definitely worth the pittance I paid for it. C- (just kidding: A+)

Best podcast app.

Use this wonderful app every day. Gets better with each update. Only thing that would make it better is an EQ to get the most out of my fave music casts

Seems okay

New version seems okay, but no way to make playlists?
